2016 Climate at UFS Zugspitze

This statistical review of climate at the Zugspitze Environmental Research Station (UFS) is based on unfiltered minute-data for temperature, pressure, relative humidity, wind speed and wind direction as provided by the German Weather Service (DWD). Suspiciously outstanding measurements were eliminated by comparing them with a running mean of 30 minute and 12 hour time windows. Measurements with differences of 3 standard deviations and above were considered as missing values. Monthly aggregated data (which you can find here) is combined to form this average year:

Black lines give 2016 monthly averages for comparison. You will find December 2016 to be outstandingly warm, dry and characterized by high air pressure. A tendency which has already be noticed in a similar manner for December 2015.

Temperature

2016 monthly average temperature follows roughly the past 16 years' average. October 2016 was slightly colder and December was again warmer. However, the temperatures are not as warm as in the December of the previous year (see also Temperature, December 2015).

Air Pressure

Looking at air pressure, December 2016 is again showing outstandingly high pressure (see also air pressure, December 2015).

Relative Humidity

Apart from a rather dry spring, December 2016 is as well characterized by a very low relative humidity.

Wind

January and February are a bit windier than the previous years. The rest of the year is quite similar to the long-term average.
